Pelling the
laid back, scenic, but rapidly swelling hamlet is situated
at 2,085 m above sea level about 2 km beyond
Pemayangtse. Pelling is famous for the magnificent view
of the snow-capped mountains of Khangchendzonga. High above
the forest covered hills, in an amphitheatre of cloud,
snow and rock, the entire route from Yuksam over Dzongri
La to the Rathong Glacier can be seen. Pelling is about
133 km away from Siliguri and 125 km from Gangtok and well
connected by bus and jeep services. Placid Pelling pulls
most of the visitors for its representative status in history,
nature and culture of the state. Pelling gives a spectacular
views of the Mount Khangchendzonga, the Guardian Deity
of Sikkim and the world’s third highest mountain
along with other sister mountains bowing before the Godly
figure in reverence. Pelling is an ideal getaway for tourists
as its vicinity has numerous waterfalls, soft trek routes,
villages and soothing atmosphere for all discerning.

Pemayangtse
Monastery:
The Pemayangtse Monastery draws religious sustenance from
the Mindoling Monastery in Central Tibet. About a century
ago, batches of monks from Pemayangtse were sent to Mindoling
for instructions in strict discipline and rites. The practice
is, of course, now discontinued. The monastery contains numerous
antique idols and objects of worship and is filled with wall
paintings and sculptures.

Sanga Choeling Monastery:
Sanga Choeling means 'the island of esoteric teaching'. 45
minutes walk from Pelling will take you to this second oldest
monastery of Sikkim. A 4 km trail rises from the playing
fields just above Pelling to reach the small monastery of
Sanga Choeling is one of the oldest Gompa in Sikkim. This
Gompa is another of Lhatsun Chenpo's creations,and is highly
venerated among the Nyingmapa.
Gutted by fire, it has been rebuilt and houses some of
the original clay statues.

Khecheopalri Lake:
This lake is also known as the wishing lake. This
unusually tranquil lake, surrounded by verdant forest is
considered as one of the sacred lakes of Sikkim both by
the Buddhist and the Hindus and no water sport or other
activities besides prayers are allowed around it.It is
believed that birds do not permit even a single leaf to
float on the
lake surface. The vicinity of the lake is an ideal place
to find the Lepcha Houses and their communities.
